Script editing and formatting is different from Script Coverage. With editing and formatting we look for any errors from spelling to correct scene taglines versus coverage that is a grading and 1-3 page analysis and breakdown of your script. For editing and formatting, it starts at $4 per page for shorts, $3 for anything between 25 and 30 pages and just $2 per page for anything over 85 pages. Contact us now for a free quote! For those that are reading scripts for a first time, or if you just need a refresher on script abbreviations, here is a list of what you are going to see in the scripts and what the abbreviations mean.
EXT and INT designations are commonly listed in film scripts to indicate exterior and interior settings. VO (voice over) refers to narration heard over a scene. It can also refer to narration heard at a higher level than a source of music or background sound. POV (point of view). Screenplays will sometimes note that a shot will be seen from the point of view of a particular actor. OS (shot-over-the-shoulder shot). The scene shows the back of one person's head and possibly one shoulder. SFX (special effects). These may be audio special effects or visual effects—effects that alter reality and are created in the postproduction and editing phases. CUT TO: The most simple and common transition. Since this transition is implied by a change of scene, it may be used sparingly to help intensify character changes and emotional shifts. The transition describes a change of scene over the course of one frame. MONTAGE In film, a series of images showing a theme, a contradiction, or the passage of time. INSERT When a writer pictures a certain close-up at a certain moment in the film, he or she may use an insert shot. This describes a shot of some important detail in a scene that must be given the camera's full attention for a moment. Inserts are mainly used in reference to objects. CONTINUOUS Sometimes, instead of DAY or NIGHT at the end of a SLUGLINE/Location Description, you'll see CONTINUOUS. Basically, continuous refers to action that moves from one location to another without any interruptions in time. Question: Are there additional costs for software and books outside of the course fees.
Answer: NO- All information for the courses are provided for free in each lesson, which also means that the knowledge, tools, and process of creating a screenplay you will get to keep. For future ideas you have the resources to create and write a screenplay on your own (but of course we are always here if you need assistance). The recommended free software: “Raw Scripts”. There is no spell check or grammar edit, but that is what the second draft is for. This free software allows for easy sharing and edits, as well as quick note adds. Is it the best out there? No - but it is free, quick to share, converts to PDF files, and promotes the film industry standard of linear film writing. Also, you can use it from any web browser and does not require any downloading. You can write from your phone, tablet, and/or computer. If you would like to use other screenwriting software, you absolutely can, Raw Scripts is just a free, easy to use suggestion. One of the most frequent questions we get is “How do the courses work?”. Courses are designed around your schedule and are all one on one. There is no login site or deadlines for assignments - no grades either. As soon as you sign up for a course you receive the syllabus, an introduction email, and an outline for how the pace of the course will be. All courses are one on one email based back and forth. If you are ever not able to complete an “assignment” in a week, that’s ok! The course is around your schedule and your time. We will send you follow up emails to keep you on pace and coach you to always encourage the progress of your work. It is easy to get side track with the 9-Week Feature Screenplay course, but that is why we are here to help and mold the schedule and writing process around you. You always receive an answer to any question within 24 hours, and if you need to go past 9 weeks (or any timeframe for any course), that’s ok!
Bottom line, you want to take an idea in your head and turn it into a polished-finished screenplay, we will help make that happen for you! We don’t stop until that final product is complete, registered, and in your hands. Still have questions about the process? Email and let us know! |
